International themed attraction design company Katapult, has been appointed to reimagine and redesign an iconic visitor experience in Gibraltar.
The World War II Tunnel Experience is an iconic and well-visited attraction on the peninsula, with fascinating stories to tell of its strategic importance to the British resistance. Plans have been well underway since 2023 to bring new investment, stories and experiences into the tunnels.
The project will see the creation of a new spy academy experience, brand new interpretation areas, themed bar and retail area - as well as a refreshed branding across the whole visitor attraction.
Katapult was appointed by Gibraltar-based Wright Tech Media who are leading on the visitor attraction project in the tunnels - which is set to be open this summer.
Christian Wright, Director at Wright Tech Media said, “We’ve been blown away by the work of the Katapult team - from branding and concept visuals, to narrative and executive production. This will mark a significant change in Gibraltar's tourism product.”
Speaking on the appointment, Chief Creative Officer and Co-Founder at Katapult, Phil Higgins said: “This project has been story-driven from the very beginning, ensuring the tales of the most awe-inspiring characters from history continue to be told. We want guests to walk away from the Tunnels experience feeling like they’ve walked side-by-side with the key protagonists from World War II.”
“We’ve loved working on this iconic visitor attraction in Gibraltar and we cannot wait to see the reaction of tourists and residents to the refreshed experience.”
The experience will open in phased openings from Summer 2024.
